Time Release for Community Service

Application Form

To:    All full-time staff

.

1.    In celebration of the CUHK 60th Anniversary and to amplify the University’s social impact via service to the community, full-time appointees may apply for time release for up to 15 hours to undertake community service during the period August 21, 2023 to June 30, 2024.  The time release may cover the actual service activity and reasonable travelling time to the service location.  The subject time release is not an entitlement and the granting of such should be subject to operational practicality.

.

2.    To realize the 60th anniversary vision of ‘where great minds shine’, the University has launched the CU60303 · Care & Unite programme (‘the CU60303 programme’) to encourage all members of the University to pledge and undertake community service.  Staff members may make a pledge under the CU60303 programme and attach the acknowledgement emails of their pledge and the service records on the platform of ‘Social Career’, a collaborator of the CU60303 programme, to support their applications for time release.  In general, volunteering and community engagement activities enrolled through Social Career may be recognized for granting time release.  Other social service activities outside of the platform can be recognized at the discretion of the Head of Department (‘HoD’), taking into account the nature of activities, service targets and reputation of organizers.

 .

3.  Record of time release for community service, if approved, will be kept by Departments/Units (‘D/Us’) locally.  CUPIS record is not required.  An applicant should provide sufficient information to enable the HoD to decide whether the activity can be recognized for granting time release.  Enrollment information and the post-activity participation record for the community service will be required for proper record.  If required by D/Us for proper record purpose, staff members may make use of a sample application form (available at the websites of Human Resources Office and Social Responsibility and Sustainability Development Office) to submit their applications for consideration and approval by HoD in advance.

 .

4.    Staff members are encouraged to pledge and undertake community service in celebration of the University’s 60th Anniversary.

 .

5.   For enquiries about the provision of time release, please contact Mr. Harris Lam, Senior Human Resources Manager (3943 8606) or Miss Kate Leung, Senior Human Resources Officer (3943 5501).
